200th Employer Signs up to AEC

The Australian Employment Covenant reached a major milestone this month with the 200th Employer joining the challenge to provide 50,000 sustainable Indigenous jobs.

CEO Rhonda Parker today welcomed McInerney Barratt Financial Services from Wayville in South Australia as a new AEC Employer.

“Every job commitment counts toward this great challenge to end Indigenous disadvantage through real, sustainable employment,” Ms Parker said.

“We now have 200 dedicated employers from very large employers like Woolworths, Linfox and Spotless through to small businesses like McInerney Barratt.”

“We say that even if your business can provide just one Indigenous job, as McInerney Barratt has committed to, that helps achieve this mammoth task, one employer, one employee and one job at a time.”

“You don’t have to be a big company to make a difference.”

The AEC’s 200 employers have committed to provide over 26,000 real, sustainable jobs. In a sign of growing momentum, the AEC’s job board has consistently listed over 500 vacancies for Indigenous Australians over the past four months, building on the 3,000 people that have already been placed.

“This is no easy task,” Rhonda Parker said “But as more employers, big and small, join and make the commitment to Indigenous employment, the AEC is meeting its commitment to the three way partnership between Employers, the Government and Indigenous job seekers.”

“Employers are creating the demand for Indigenous job seekers, which means that the Government and job service providers can help get unemployed Indigenous Australians into the real AEC job vacancies..”

“Right now AEC employers have around 550 unfilled vacancies waiting for applicants, most of which are job entry positions varying from drivers to retail, from store people to clerical and more.”

“We won’t stop until the 50,000th job is committed and it’s great to now have 200 dedicated employers like McInerney Barratt helping us meet the challenge,” Rhonda Parker said.
